L.U.C.K.Y {Me! It's my Birthday}

Not only is today my birthday but I also have my dad here with me, I'm married to my best friend, and I am the mother of the two most adorable girls in world! (Okay, I may be a little biased. I'm sure your girls are adorable too!) So, yeah, I'm feeling pretty lucky.

And speaking of luck.

St. Patrick's Day is coming up. It occurred it me a few weeks ago that aside from Christmas and Halloween I have NO decorations for any other holiday. How sad is that? I don't really know why. Maybe because I've just been too lazy to get out and put away decorations every month! But I've decided I want to change that. It started with my excitement about making my Valentine's Day wreath (which I finished by the way and totally love!!) It's only one thing but it was enough to get me started. Now that St. Patrick's Day is coming I thought I better get at least one decoration made. (I'll probably get more after the holiday so I can buy things on sale!)

Side note: another thing I'm feeling lucky about is having an awesome mother-in-law. I called her a few mornings ago to ask if she had any spare 2x4's hanging around and not only did she say yes, but she showed up at my door within a few hours with my blocks already cut and ready to go!

I got to work as soon as the girls were down to turn my 2x4 blocks into my "lucky" blocks! I started my project by sanding (which I really hate doing. Sanding to me is like nails on a chalkboard to some. Gives me the willies!) all of the blocks and then painting them.

When my paint was dry I used Mod Podge (the best craft supply ever) to adhere the letters "L", "C", "K", and "Y" (I cut them out with my Cricut) to 4 of the blocks. Can you guess what goes on the empty block? (I'll give you a hint....it's in the picture).

I decided to go with a pot of gold in place of my "U" but I think a clover would be cute too. To make my "pot of god" I started by gluing 9 yellow buttons near the top of the block.

Then I cut out a pot (free hand) from black cardstock and lined the rim with black gemstones. I used foam squares to adhere it to the block so it stands off of it just a little bit.

I finished it off by tying some black tulle around each block and ta-da! I have my very first St. Patrick's Day decoration.

AND! I'm actually planning on making these blocks reversible. I painted them an antique white and used black tulle so that I can turn them around and make the other side Valentine blocks. I just haven't figured out yet what I can do for V-Day with 5 spaces. I'd love any suggestions!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Happy Birthday sis! Can you stop with the craftiness already, your killing me! Just kidding, we need it. How about "I (heart) you" for the other side.

Too cute. For Valentine's you could do LOVE and a heart or KISS and lips. Or HUGS and ? (I don't know what with it, maybe a heart again. Good luck with the flip side.

Thanks all. My first thought was actually the same as Amy's (Be) Mine. But I like I (heart) you a lot too as well as Cupid. I'll do an *update* post when I get the other side done so you can see how it turned out.
